The New Manager Ramp
Ramp a first-time manager in 30 days
Someone just became a manager for the first time: [THEIR NAME/ROLE, WHO THEY MANAGE NOW, WHETHER THEY WERE PROMOTED FROM THE TEAM, WHAT I AM WORRIED ABOUT]. Build their first-30-days plan: the conversations to have in week one (with each report and with their old peers if promoted from within), the management basics to install immediately (1:1 cadence, how to give feedback, what to escalate), the mistakes first-time managers make and the early signal for each, and how I support them without hovering. Include the week-two check-in questions that catch problems while they are still small.
Inputs needed
- ■Person, reports, promoted-from-within or not, my concerns
What good output looks like
Week-one conversations scripted; basics installed as concrete practices; failure modes have early signals; support plan is structured, not hovering
